Jim Konopasek, P.E., Naval Architect, President, Maritime Design, Inc.
Mr. Konopasek is a graduate in naval architecture (1977) from the College Fisheries, Navigation, Marine Engineering & Electronics, now the Dept. of Naval Architecture, Memorial University of Newfoundland and is a Board certified registered professional engineer in the State of Florida.
Mr. Konopasek has held engineering positions with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (1975), the firm of German & Milne, Ltd, Montreal (1977-79) in the specialization of polar icebreakers, and Offshore Power Systems (Westinghouse/Newport News joint venture) (1979-1983) in the capacity of structural engineer in offshore floating nuclear power plants. Mr. Konopasek is principal owner of Maritime Design, Inc. and has been involved in the design, engineering and consulting of many specialized vessel types including general service vessels to the offshore oil industry, offshore platforms, oil tankers, barges, oceanographic research vessels, patrol boats and auto/passenger ferries.
Mr. Konopasek holds a design patent (US Patent Office) for the design of a double hull, cargo oil containment system , was a contributing panelist on ship production for the Society of Naval Architects Ship Production Symposium, and has served as Section Chairman, Southeast, for the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Mr. Konopasek has also completed and earned (prior to secondary education) Canadian certificates in marine trades, Shipwright, and has worked at sea in the offshore commercial fisheries, US East Coast and Grand Banks.
Jim is married with two sons, a granddaughter, is a competitive cyclist and time permitting, will head to the mountain snow. |
